Heritage Road Tour - 19 Days from Laos visited: Luong Prabang - Xiengkhuang - Vieng Xay - Dong Hoi - Hue - Hoi An - HCM - Mekong - Phnom Penh - Siem Reap

 

Day 1: Arrive Luang Prabang - Half Day City Tour
On arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Time permitting; your half day city tour begins with a visit to the Royal Palace Museum, which hosts a range of interesting artifacts.  We then head to the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represents classical Laotian architecture.  We also have time to visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrines of Wat Aham and Wat Mai. Overnight in Luang Prabang

Day 2: Luang Prabang - Big Brother Mouse - Ban Khia Luang - Pak Ou Caves (B)

The day starts with a visit to the Big Brother Mouse shop to select some books for the village visit.  We then head north by car along route 13, before taking a unpaved road to Ban Khia Luang village. We then have ample time to visit the school, play with the kids and watch them enjoy their new books.  We also take some time to explore the rest of the village, where you can see weaving and visit the local temple. We stop for lunch at the village, which can either be a western picnic lunch, or traditional Lao food such as sticky rice, laap and fresh vegetables cooked by the villagers. After lunch we say good bye to the village and drive to Ban Khoklin, which takes us through some beautiful scenery of mountains and paddy fields. At Ban Khoklin we then board a private boat down the Nam Ou River for 30 minutes to Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims and continue down the Mekong River back to Luang Prabang, arriving back there by late afternoon. Overnight in Luang Prabang

Day 3: Luang Prabang - Khuang Si Waterfall and Ban Chan (B)
Today we cross the Mekong River by boat, to the picturesque village of Ban Chan, a pottery village.  We then visit the morning Phousi Market, where you will see such diverse offerings as dried buffalo skin, local tea and saltpeter among the chickens, vegetables and hill-tribe weavings. Laos is also known for its traditional crafts, and today you will visit local villages of Lao ethnic minority groups at Ban Ouay, a Hmong village, Ban Ou a Laoloum village and Ban Thapene, a Khmu village. This then takes us to the beautiful Khuang Si Waterfall where you can cool off with a refreshing swim in the pools or walk along the forest trails. We then return to Luang Prabang by late afternoon. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 4: Luang Prabang - Xiengkhuang (B)
plain of jarsToday, we make the days drive through wonderful natural scenery to Xiengkhuang.  The journey will give you plenty of opportunities for photos and visiting hill tribe villages. Upon arrival, we transfer out to visit Site 1 of the Plain of Jars, an impressive archaeological site where hundreds of large stone jars are scattered all over the plateau.  Overnight in Xiengkhuang.

Day 5: Xieng Khuang - Dong Hoi (B)

This morning, after breakfast, we continue our trip to Cau Treo border gate where our Vietnam car and guide are waiting for. Pick up and drive to Dong Hoi. The rest of the day is free at leisure. Overnight in Dong Hoi.

 

Day 6: Dong Hoi - Phong Nha - Hue (B)

After breakfast, we drive to visit Phong Nha cave which was designated a Unesco World Heritage site in 2003. It’s remarkable for its thousands of metres of underground passageways and river caves filled with abundant stalactites and stalagmites. Continue to Hue. Check in on arrival and overnight in Hue.

 

Day 7: Hue (B)

In the morning, we take a beautiful boat trip on “Perfume River” to visit the elegant Thien Mu Pagoda, Forbidden Purple City as well as two of the most impressive tombs of the Nguyen emperors, Minh Mang and Khai Dinh. Overnight in Hue.

 

Day 8: Hue - Hoi An (B)

In the morning, we transfer you to Hoian, Visit Marble mountain and Cham Museum on the way. Overnight in Hoi An

 

Day 9: Hoi An - My Son - Hoi An (B)

Transfer from Hoi An to My Son Holy land, once the spiritual capital of Champa Kingdom that dominated South East Asia for nearly a thousand years and occupied most of the central parts of Vietnam from 2nd century to 16th century with very rich in history and culture. Contemplate its remarkable red brick towers and sanctuaries dating from between the 7th and 13th centuries.

Drive back to Hoi An, visit the former merchants' homes, the 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge, Phuc Kien pagoda and the colourful riverside market.

Day 10: Hoi An (B)

Free day at leisure. Overnight in Hoi An.

 

Day 11: Hoi An - Danang - Ho Chi Minh City (B)

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Ho Chi Minh city. Met upon your arrival and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, we will do the city tour of Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, visiting to Reunification Palace, the Thien Hau pagoda and the environment of Ben Thanh market. Tour ended at about 5 pm, we come back to our hotel for two nights in Ho Chi Minh City.

 

Day 12: Ho Chi Minh - Tay Ninh - Cu Chi - Ho Chi Minh (B)

Excursion to Tay Ninh, the head quarter of Cao Dai sect founded in 1923. Visit the ornate temple of Cao Dai and attend the fantastic Midday Mass ceremony when the followers fill the hall wearing colored robes, a symbol of the curious combination of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, Christianism and Islamism. Continue to the famous Cu Chi Tunnels an incredible underground network constructed by Vietnamese guerillas. The tunnels, virtually beneath the US bases for surprise attacks, contained hospitals, accommodation, schools and were used as a military base for Vietnam Communist Army in the US-Vietnam war.

Return to Ho Chi Minh city. Afternoon free at leisure.

Day 13: Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho (B)

Today we will start our exploration of the Mekong Delta, a major rice producing area. This must be one of the most fascinating riverine deltas in the world. The Mekong splits into nine major arteries. A vast network of rivers and waterways with thousands of ships of all sizes plowing the waters gives the Mekong Delta a very special atmosphere. We will make a boat trip to the Cai Be floating Market, visit villages and meet the people of the Mekong Delta. Continue your boat trip  to An Binh Island for Lunch in a local family and bike trip in the afternoon. Continue to CanTho for overnight.

 

Day 14: Can Tho - Chau Doc (B)

Starts from Ninh Kieu boat quay, we cruise along the small and picturesque tributaries, we will see the Cai Rang floating market (the nicest one with heaps of rowing boats). Take in the beautiful scenery and the daily activities of the locals who lives along the Mekong canals and you will roam through the village to visit a rice husking mill and a rice noodles making shop. Then continue going to Chau Doc via Long Xuyen. Check in on arrival. Visit the Sam mountain to enjoy the a breath-taking view on the Vietnamese-Cambodian border with flat rice fields and nice canals, visit caved pagoda. Overnight in Chau Doc.

 

Day 15: Chau Doc - Phnom Penh (B)

Boat trip to Phnom Penh, pick up and transfer hotel for check in. After a short rest, transfer to visit Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, National Museum and Russian Market. Dinner at local restaurant & Overnight in Phnom Penh.

 

Day 16: Phnom Penh - Siem Reap (B)

After breakfast, you will transfer to the airport for flight departure to Siem Reap, upon arrival, check in hotel. Then free leisure by your own guest activities till suitable time for pick up at the hotel to have dinner with Apsara dance show at local restaurant & Overnight in Siem Reap.

 

Day 17: Siem Reap - Angkor Thom - Angkor Wat (B)

Morning visit to the South Gate of Angkor Thom, Bayon, Baphoun, Terrace of Elephant, Terrace of Leper King and Pimean Akas. Lunch at local restaurant.

Afternoon visit to the famous temple of Cambodia, Angkor Wat then continue to visit the Bakheng Hill temple with Sun Set included from the top of this hill, back hotel. Overnight in Siem Reap.

 

Day 18: Siem Reap - Tonle Sap Cruise - Phauk Village (B, D)

This morning, we take a wonderful cruise on Tonle Sap Lake for 1hour, visit floating village and  fisherman life, then back to visit Chantie Ecole-Artisan D’Angkor and Old Market. Lunch at local restaurant.

 

This afternoon, transfer to visit the base of Silk Village Phauk, it’s the village of Marble work, silk weaving and silk sewing and back to visit West Baray. Back hotel. Dinner at local & Overnight in Siem Reap.

 

Day 19: Siem Reap – Departure (B)

Free at leisure till suitable time for transfer to the airport for flight off.
